Parent coaching is a strategy used by trained professionals to teach adults specific skills and techniques in areas needed to help the parent develop and practice skills that are beneficial to their child’s success. In this case, the trained professional would be a speech-language pathologist with experience in parent coaching within the early intervention and autism spectrum disorder arena. Let’s face it: there are not enough speech pathologists to help the many families in need and waiting lists can be from 3 to 12 months even. Parent coaching will help feel the gap so that you as the parent will be able to provide the services that your child needs! YOU will be the expert of your child, and I will be here to SUPPORT you with my knowledge and extensive training.
If you are a hands-on parent who would like help learning how to help your child communicate more effectively, whether he or she has delayed speech and/or language skills or not, parent coaching is for you!
Parent Coaching sessions are now available for parents with children age birth to three years old and children up to 5 with an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis or suspected autism spectrum disorder diagnosis.
Parent coaching sessions consist of a 55-minute Zoom meeting in which you will speak with a trained speech-language pathologist about any questions you have, and an informal assessment will be done to give you the strategies that you can use with your child that are personalized to your child’s level of development.
